Juice Fasting - Two Filling, Raw, Vegan Recipes

Don't Go Hungry While Detoxing on a Raw Juice Fast - Easy Recipes!

Aug 7, 2009 Maria Blanco

Many detox programs based on juice fasting fail because of hunger. With these yummy, filling, raw soup and smoothie recipes in your toolkit, that need not happen to you!

Denser fruits and vegetables make good additions to a juice fast because they help to ward off hunger, which can quickly bring a great detoxifying juice fast to an abrupt end! To avoid the hunger problem altogether, remember to drink plenty of pure water between juicing, and include healthy raw foods like banana, mango, papaya and avocado in the regimen when hungry.

Following are a soup recipe, and a smoothie recipe that both utilize delicious, filling, nutrient dense fruits, to keep a good juice fast on track.

Quick and Easy Soup Recipe: Avocado Souper Booster

Ingredients:

  • approximately 1 cup fresh Carrot Juice
  • 1 green onion
  • 1 Haas Avocado, peeled and seeded
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground Cumin

To prepare:

  1. Juice the green onion and carrots (about 5 - 7) until they have yielded a cup, or so, of juice.
  2. Pour the juice into a blender with the cumin and avocado, and puree' until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Chill this soup in the refrigerator, or serve immediately.

A Raw Hunger Buster: The Great Green Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium Mango, peeled, seeded, and coarsely chopped
  • 1 Banana, cut into chunks (frozen banana chunks may be used)
  • 1 large Florida Avocado, peeled and seeded
  • 1 large cup of ice cubes
  • 1 cup of water

To prepare:

  1. Place all ingredients into a blender, vitamix, or smoothie machine.
  2. Puree' until smooth.
  3. Adjust by adding more water if necessary.
  4. Dispense into a large glass and serve immediately.

Note: When frozen banana chunks are used, the result is much like a soft serve ice cream!

Periodic juice fasts of 1 - 3 days are so beneficial for the body. They allow the body to rest from the hard work of digestion while supplying the body with nutrient dense foods. The nutrients and water in fresh made juices assist in colon cleansing, flushing the kidneys, and giving the liver a sorely needed rest. And, because the process of juicing and blending breaks all the cell walls in the fruits and vegetables that are juiced, all of the nutrients contained within them become eminently more bio-available.

Totally Cleansing Raw Food Retreats

For a real treat, those interested in a total body cleanse may like to look into the retreats offered at such places as the Optimum Health Institute, the Hippocrates Health Institute, or the Ann Wigmore Natural Health Institute. These and many other fine, educational retreat facilities can be found throughout the United States, and even in Puerto Rico.

Facilities such as these offer education in raw and vegan food preparation, juicing, wheatgrass and barley grass juicing, sprouting, therapeutic massage, yoga, colonics, and a genuine rest from the harried pace of modern life. Some will even allow guests to work at their institute to pay for their stay!
